List of Manufacturing Companies in the USA
A directory of 723 manufacturing companies with significant US operations, grouped into 18 categories, with sub-sector, US headquarters, state, parent country and website for each. Plus sourced sector statistics, state and regional breakdowns, NAICS 31-33 reference, and the methodology behind what was included and what was left out.
US manufacturing is not one industry. It is roughly two dozen of them, sharing a statistical bracket. A semiconductor fab in Chandler, a beef plant in Greeley and a shipyard in Newport News all sit inside NAICS 31-33, and almost nothing about how they buy, hire or operate is the same.
That is the problem with most lists of manufacturing companies in USA search results: they show you thirty famous names, which tells you nothing you did not already know. This page is built the other way around. It is a directory first, organized by manufacturing category, then by state, with the context you need to extend it yourself.
What is on this page
- A sourced overview of the sector's size, employment and output.
- A directory of 723 manufacturing companies with significant US operations, grouped into 18 categories, each row carrying sub-sector, US headquarters, state, parent country and website.
- The largest US manufacturers ranked against one stated metric.
- Notable manufacturers and clusters by state, and the regional hubs they sit in.
- A taxonomy of manufacturing types (discrete, process, OEM, contract, private label) so the categories mean something.
- Practical research methods, including NAICS, and what a usable manufacturing database actually contains.
- Methodology, sources and FAQs.
Foreign-owned companies are included where they run US plants, and are always labeled with their parent country. Nothing on this page is a complete census of American manufacturers, and the methodology section explains exactly why.
The manufacturing industry in the USA
A few numbers set the scale. Each is from a primary source and each is dated, because sector statistics go stale quickly.
| Measure | Figure | Period | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Manufacturing value added | $3.0 trillion (annual rate) | Q1 2026 | BEA, via NAM |
| Share of total US value-added output | 9.4% | Q1 2026 | BEA, via NAM |
| Manufacturing value added, full year | $2.90 trillion | 2025 | BEA, via NAM |
| Manufacturing employment | 12,611,000 | July 2026 (preliminary, seasonally adjusted) | BLS, series CES3000000001 |
| Manufacturing firms | 239,265 | 2022 | US Census Bureau, via NAM |
| Firms with fewer than 100 employees | 93.1% | 2022 | US Census Bureau, via NAM |
| US-manufactured goods exports | $1,763.8 billion | 2025 | US Census/BEA trade data, via NAM |
| Manufacturing R&D spending | $412.8 billion | 2024 | NSF, via NAM |
| Manufacturing share of private-sector R&D | 51.8% | 2024 | NSF, via NAM |
| Employment at US affiliates of foreign multinationals (manufacturing) | 3.0 million+ | 2023 | BEA, via NAM |
Three things follow from that table, and they shape the rest of this page.
Manufacturing is dominated by small firms, not the giants. More than nine in ten US manufacturing firms employ fewer than 100 workers. Any directory of named companies, including this one, is by definition a view of the top of the distribution. That matters if you are building a prospect list: the famous names are a rounding error in the firm count, even though they are most of the output.
The sector is far more research-intensive than its GDP share suggests. At 9.4% of value-added output, manufacturers perform over half of all private-sector R&D. This is why engineering, quality and R&D leadership are legitimate buyer personas in manufacturing and not just plant-floor operations roles.
Foreign-owned plants are a large, permanent part of American manufacturing. Three million manufacturing workers are employed by US affiliates of foreign multinationals. A directory that only lists US-headquartered companies would miss BMW in South Carolina, Toyota in Kentucky and TSMC in Arizona. This one includes them, labeled.
The categories that make up the sector
The directory below is organized into these categories. They map to NAICS 31-33 subsectors but are named the way buyers and researchers actually talk.
Automotive and transportation equipment. Aerospace and defense. Electronics and semiconductors. Machinery and industrial equipment. Chemicals, and separately petroleum refining. Pharmaceuticals and biologics. Medical devices and life-science instruments. Food, beverage and agribusiness processing. Steel, metals and fabricated metal products. Plastics, rubber and packaging. Electrical equipment and power systems. Consumer and household products. Paper, packaging and printing. Textiles, apparel, footwear and flooring. Furniture and furnishings. Building materials and HVAC. Energy equipment. Contract manufacturing and precision components.
Complete list of manufacturing companies in the USA
This is the core of the page: 723 companies with significant manufacturing operations in the United States, grouped by category.
How to read the tables
- US headquarters is the company's United States head office, given as city and state. For foreign-owned entries this is the US office, not the global one.
- Parent country is where ultimate ownership sits. "United States" means US-headquartered and US-owned.
- Website is the primary corporate domain.
- A company appears once, in its largest manufacturing segment.
- Where a field could not be established with confidence it is left blank rather than filled with a guess.
What was deliberately left out. Companies whose products are made entirely by third parties are not manufacturers for the purposes of this list, however industrial they feel. That excludes fabless semiconductor firms (Nvidia, AMD, Qualcomm, Marvell), brand owners with fully outsourced production (Nike, Mattel, most apparel brands), metals service centers and industrial distributors (Reliance, Ryerson, Grainger, Fastenal), oilfield service firms, and contract research organizations. Several of them are excellent prospects if you sell to manufacturing. They are not manufacturers.

Largest manufacturing companies in the USA
Before the names, the criterion, because "largest" is meaningless without one.
Most published rankings of US manufacturers sort on total company revenue, which is the wrong number and is used anyway because it is the only one reported consistently. Total revenue is not manufacturing revenue: ExxonMobil's includes crude production and marketing, Cummins' includes distribution, RTX's includes aftermarket services. No US manufacturer reports a "manufacturing revenue" line, so any ranking built on one is an estimate presented as a fact. Fiscal years also differ, with Deere ending in October and Tyson in September, so a single "FY2024" column compares different twelve-month periods.
For that reason this section lists the largest US manufacturers by sector, unranked, without dollar figures, and states where the ranking should come from instead.
Largest US manufacturers by sector
| Sector | Largest US manufacturers |
|---|---|
| Petroleum refining and petrochemicals | Exxon Mobil, Chevron, Marathon Petroleum, Phillips 66, Valero Energy, Dow, LyondellBasell |
| Automotive and transportation equipment | General Motors, Ford Motor Company, Tesla, Stellantis North America, PACCAR, Cummins |
| Aerospace and defense | RTX, Boeing, Lockheed Martin, General Dynamics, Northrop Grumman, GE Aerospace, L3Harris |
| Pharmaceuticals and biologics | Johnson & Johnson, Merck & Co., Pfizer, AbbVie, Eli Lilly, Bristol Myers Squibb, Amgen |
| Food, beverage and agribusiness | PepsiCo, Tyson Foods, Cargill, Archer-Daniels-Midland, The Coca-Cola Company, General Mills, Kraft Heinz |
| Consumer and household products | Procter & Gamble, Kimberly-Clark, Colgate-Palmolive, Kenvue, The Clorox Company |
| Electronics and semiconductors | Intel, Texas Instruments, Micron Technology, HP Inc., Dell Technologies, Applied Materials |
| Machinery and industrial equipment | Caterpillar, Deere & Company, Honeywell International, 3M, Illinois Tool Works, Emerson Electric, Parker Hannifin |
| Medical devices and life sciences | Medtronic, Abbott Laboratories, Thermo Fisher Scientific, Becton Dickinson, Stryker, Danaher |
| Steel and metals | Nucor, Cleveland-Cliffs, Steel Dynamics, United States Steel, Alcoa |
| Paper and packaging | International Paper, Smurfit Westrock, Packaging Corporation of America, Ball Corporation, Crown Holdings |
How to build a defensible ranking from here. Pull the revenue line from each company's most recent SEC Form 10-K via EDGAR full-text search, record the fiscal year end and the filing date alongside the figure, sort on that single field, and state the criterion and retrieval date in the table caption. Refresh annually. Fortune's annual list is a reasonable secondary source if it is cited by year and its own methodology is linked, but it ranks companies rather than manufacturing operations, so it will place diversified firms and refiners above pure-play manufacturers.

Two things are worth separating here: where manufacturing output is largest, and where manufacturing is most concentrated relative to the state economy. They give different answers.
Largest states by manufacturing value of shipments (2022 Economic Census)
| Rank | State | Total value of shipments |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Texas | $808.0 billion |
| 2 | California | $656.1 billion |
| 3 | Ohio | $374.0 billion |
| 4 | Indiana | $333.7 billion |
| 5 | Illinois | $319.6 billion |
Largest states by manufacturing employment (2022 Economic Census)
| Rank | State | Manufacturing employees |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | California | 1,181,588 |
| 2 | Texas | 853,346 |
| 3 | Ohio | 678,989 |
| 4 | Michigan | 590,386 |
| 5 | Pennsylvania | 563,035 |
Highest manufacturing revenue per resident (2022 Economic Census)
| Rank | State | Manufacturing revenue per capita |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Louisiana | $59,217 |
| 2 | Indiana | $48,757 |
| 3 | Iowa | $46,745 |
| 4 | Nebraska | $38,001 |
| 5 | Kentucky | $36,999 |
Louisiana ranks first per capita and does not appear in the top five for employment, which is the clearest illustration of a general rule: petrochemical and refining states produce enormous output with comparatively few workers, while discrete-manufacturing states such as Michigan and Ohio employ far more workers per dollar of shipments. If you are prospecting by headcount, those are different target lists.

Major US manufacturing hubs
State lines are administrative. Manufacturing organizes itself into regions, and those regions are what actually determine supplier networks, labor pools and logistics costs.
The Great Lakes and the auto belt. Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and Wisconsin. Vehicle assembly and the deepest tier-1 and tier-2 supplier network in North America, plus machine tools, stamping, castings and industrial equipment. This is where a supplier can reach a hundred qualified plants inside a day's drive, and it is why so many automotive suppliers keep US headquarters within thirty miles of Detroit even when their plants are elsewhere.
The Southeast automotive corridor. Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee and Kentucky. Built out since the 1990s around foreign OEM assembly plants: BMW at Greer, Mercedes-Benz at Vance, Hyundai at Montgomery, Kia at West Point, Nissan in Tennessee, Toyota in Kentucky. Newer, more automated plants, younger supplier networks, and a growing EV battery cluster running from Georgia into Kentucky and Tennessee.
The Gulf Coast petrochemical and refining complex. Texas and Louisiana, with a spine along the Houston Ship Channel and the lower Mississippi. Refining, olefins, polymers, industrial gases and fertilizer. Very high output per worker, very capital-intensive, and the buying centers look nothing like discrete manufacturing: turnaround planning, process safety and reliability engineering matter more than production scheduling.
California advanced manufacturing. Semiconductors and semiconductor equipment in the Bay Area, aerospace and space in Southern California, medical devices in Orange County and San Diego, and the largest food and wine processing base in the country in the Central Valley. Four distinct clusters sharing a state.
The Northeast pharmaceutical and biologics corridor. New Jersey, eastern Pennsylvania, Delaware and Massachusetts. Small-molecule and biologics manufacturing, fill-finish, CDMO capacity, plus the life-science instrument cluster around Boston. Highly regulated production, long qualification cycles, and buying decisions that route through quality and validation as much as operations.
Pacific Northwest aerospace. Puget Sound around Boeing's Everett and Renton sites, with a supplier base extending into Oregon, plus heavy truck production at PACCAR and Daimler Truck North America.
The Arizona and Texas semiconductor build-out. Phoenix and Austin have become the two centers of new US fab investment: TSMC and Intel in Arizona, Samsung and Texas Instruments in Texas, with packaging, materials and equipment suppliers following. This is the newest of the hubs and the fastest changing.
The Carolinas and Georgia textile and flooring belt. Dalton and Calhoun, Georgia for carpet and flooring; the Carolina Piedmont for yarns, technical textiles and nonwovens. Much smaller in employment than in 1990, and much more technical in what remains.
Types of manufacturing in the USA
Categories in the directory describe what is made. These terms describe how it is made, and they are the distinction that decides whether a given company is a plausible customer or supplier.
Discrete manufacturing produces countable, distinct units that can be assembled and disassembled: vehicles, aircraft, appliances, medical devices, electronics. Output is measured in units. Bills of materials, work orders and serial numbers are the organizing objects.
Process manufacturing produces goods by formula in continuous or semi-continuous flow: chemicals, refined fuels, food ingredients, pharmaceuticals, pulp. Output is measured in volume or weight, there is no bill of materials in the discrete sense, and reversing the process is impossible. Recipes, batch records and yield are the organizing objects.
Batch manufacturing sits between the two: production runs of a fixed quantity, then a changeover. Common in pharmaceuticals, specialty chemicals, cosmetics, craft food and beverage. Changeover time and cleaning validation dominate the economics.
Repetitive and job-shop manufacturing describes volume rather than method. Repetitive production runs the same item continuously on dedicated lines; a job shop runs low volumes of many different items on shared equipment.
OEM (original equipment manufacturer) designs and produces goods sold under its own brand, and owns the specification. Ford, Whirlpool and Medtronic are OEMs.
Contract manufacturing produces to another company's specification, under that company's brand. Jabil, Flex, Plexus and Lonza are contract manufacturers. The distinguishing feature is that the contract manufacturer does not own the product design or the customer relationship.
Private-label manufacturing produces goods sold under a retailer's brand. TreeHouse Foods and Perrigo are the clearest US examples. Similar to contract manufacturing, but the customer is a retailer rather than a brand owner, and formulation is often the manufacturer's own.
Component and sub-assembly manufacturing supplies parts into someone else's finished product: bearings, connectors, castings, wire harnesses, printed circuit boards. Most of the companies in the world are here, and almost none of them are household names.
Custom and made-to-order manufacturing builds to a specific customer specification each time, common in industrial equipment, tooling and fabrication.
Why this matters practically. If you sell shop-floor scheduling software, a discrete job shop and a continuous-process refinery are not the same market despite sharing a NAICS sector. If you are sourcing a supplier, "contract manufacturer" and "OEM" describe entirely different commercial relationships. Any list of manufacturing companies in USA form that does not let you separate these will waste your time.
How to find manufacturing companies in the USA
There is no single authoritative directory of US manufacturers, so serious research means combining sources and understanding what each one gets wrong.
US Census Bureau economic programs. The Economic Census (every five years), County Business Patterns (annual), and the Annual Survey of Manufactures. These are the definitive sources for counts, shipments, employment and payroll by industry and geography. Strength: authoritative and complete. Limitation: they publish aggregates, never company names. Use them to size a market, not to build a list.
Bureau of Labor Statistics. Current Employment Statistics for national and state manufacturing employment, the Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages for county-level detail. Strength: timely and revised. Limitation: again aggregates, no company identification.
NAICS classification. The shared vocabulary between all the above and most commercial databases. See the next section.
SEC EDGAR full-text search. Every US-listed manufacturer files a 10-K containing segment revenue, facility lists and often a plant-by-plant table under Item 2, Properties. Strength: primary source, free, legally accountable. Limitation: public companies only, which is a small fraction of the 239,265 manufacturing firms.
State manufacturing associations and economic development agencies. Most states publish member directories or manufacturer databases, and economic development agencies maintain lists of major employers by county. Strength: covers private mid-market firms that no national list reaches. Limitation: format and freshness vary wildly by state, and membership directories only show members.
Industry associations. NAM, the American Chemistry Council, PMMI, AAMA, MedTech-focused bodies and dozens of sector groups publish member lists. Strength: strong sector precision. Limitation: self-selecting.
Trade shows and their exhibitor lists. IMTS, Fabtech, Pack Expo, RAPID + TCT, MD&M. The exhibitor directory of a large trade show is one of the most underrated sources of qualified company lists in existence, and it is usually public. Strength: every listed company has budget and is actively selling. Limitation: it is a list of suppliers to an industry as much as of the industry itself.
Supplier and sourcing directories. Thomasnet, MFG.com and similar. Strength: built specifically for finding manufacturers by capability, which no government source does. Limitation: paid placement affects visibility, and listings decay.
LinkedIn and company websites. The only reliable way to establish who currently holds a role. Strength: current. Limitation: not systematic, not exportable at scale within the terms of service, and job titles in manufacturing are notoriously non-standard.
Commercial B2B databases. The category that exists because everything above is partial. Strength: one queryable schema across firmographics, technographics and contacts. Limitation: accuracy varies enormously between providers and decays continuously, so verification practice matters more than record count.
The realistic method is to triangulate: size the sector with Census and BLS, identify named companies from filings, association directories and trade-show exhibitor lists, then use a commercial database to fill in contacts and to reach the private mid-market firms that no public source names.
How to build a manufacturing company database
If the output of your research is going to be used more than once, structure it from the start. Retrofitting a schema onto 4,000 rows of copied notes costs more than building it correctly.
Fields worth carrying
| Group | Fields |
|---|---|
| Identity | Company name (legal), trading name, website, LinkedIn company URL, parent company, ownership type (public, private, PE-owned, foreign subsidiary) |
| Location | Headquarters street, city, state, ZIP, country, plant locations, plant count, region |
| Classification | Primary NAICS, secondary NAICS, SIC, manufacturing category, manufacturing type (discrete, process, batch), OEM or contract |
| Size | Employee count, employee range, annual revenue, revenue range, plant headcount where known |
| Technology | ERP, MES, PLM/CAD, quality system, shop-floor systems |
| Contact | First name, last name, job title, department, seniority, business email, direct phone, LinkedIn profile URL |
| Provenance | Source of each record, date verified, verification method, confidence flag |
The last group is the one most teams skip and the one that determines whether the database is still usable in a year. A record without a source and a verification date cannot be audited, refreshed or defended.
Why the classification fields earn their keep. Manufacturing categories are too coarse on their own. "Manufacturing" covers a 300-person injection molder and a 30,000-person aerospace prime. NAICS plus employee range plus manufacturing type turns a single undifferentiated list into segments you can write different messages for.
What structured company data actually enables
- Sales: territory assignment by state or region, account tiering by revenue and headcount, routing by plant location rather than headquarters.
- Marketing: segmentation by NAICS and size for message-market fit, and suppression of segments you cannot serve.
- Account-based marketing: building the full buying committee at a target plant, which in manufacturing routinely includes operations, engineering, quality, procurement and EHS.
- Supplier discovery and sourcing: finding capable domestic suppliers by capability, certification and location, including for reshoring evaluations.
- Competitive intelligence: mapping which competitors are installed at which accounts by technographic field.
- Market research and territory planning: measuring the addressable base by state before committing field headcount.
Manufacturing company contact lists
Directory research answers "which companies." It does not answer "who do I contact," and in manufacturing those are genuinely different problems. A large manufacturer may run twelve plants with a plant manager, a maintenance manager and a quality lead at each, none of whom appear anywhere on the corporate website.
The roles that typically matter when selling into manufacturing:
- Plant manager and operations manager, at the site rather than at headquarters
- VP of Manufacturing, VP of Operations, Chief Operating Officer
- Procurement and sourcing managers, and supply-chain directors
- Quality managers and directors, and regulatory affairs in regulated sectors
- Manufacturing, process and controls engineers
- Maintenance and reliability managers
- EHS directors
- R&D and continuous-improvement leadership
- CEO, CFO and CIO for capital purchases and system decisions
This is where BizzContacts fits, and it is worth being precise about what the product does rather than overselling it. The manufacturing industry email list covers verified decision-makers at manufacturing companies, filtered by NAICS 31 through 33, with segmentation by sub-sector, employee size, revenue band and geography. Records carry the person fields (name, title, department, seniority, business email, direct dial, LinkedIn URL), company fields (legal name, website, revenue, employee count, headquarters), classification fields (NAICS and SIC) and technographic fields covering ERP and shop-floor systems. Standard accuracy is stated at above 95%, records cycle through re-verification on a seven-day basis, and a free 50-record sample is available so the data can be checked before anything is purchased.
Adjacent lists that overlap with manufacturing research include the C-level executives email list for capital and system decisions, the COO email list for operations leadership specifically, and the medical device manufacturers email list for the regulated device segment.
None of that replaces the research on this page. It supplements it: the directory tells you which companies exist, a contact database tells you who to reach inside them.
Manufacturing NAICS codes
NAICS, the North American Industry Classification System, is the shared language of US industry statistics. Every Census and BLS manufacturing figure quoted on this page is organized by it, and every serious commercial database supports filtering on it. If you are going to segment manufacturers, this is the field to segment on.
Manufacturing is sector 31-33, split across three two-digit codes purely because the sector was too large for one. There is no meaningful distinction between 31, 32 and 33 as groupings; the subsectors below are what matter.
| NAICS | Subsector |
|---|---|
| 311 | Food Manufacturing |
| 312 | Beverage and Tobacco Product Manufacturing |
| 313 | Textile Mills |
| 314 | Textile Product Mills |
| 315 | Apparel Manufacturing |
| 316 | Leather and Allied Product Manufacturing |
| 321 | Wood Product Manufacturing |
| 322 | Paper Manufacturing |
| 323 | Printing and Related Support Activities |
| 324 | Petroleum and Coal Products Manufacturing |
| 325 | Chemical Manufacturing |
| 326 | Plastics and Rubber Products Manufacturing |
| 327 | Nonmetallic Mineral Product Manufacturing |
| 331 | Primary Metal Manufacturing |
| 332 | Fabricated Metal Product Manufacturing |
| 333 | Machinery Manufacturing |
| 334 | Computer and Electronic Product Manufacturing |
| 335 | Electrical Equipment, Appliance, and Component Manufacturing |
| 336 | Transportation Equipment Manufacturing |
| 337 | Furniture and Related Product Manufacturing |
| 339 | Miscellaneous Manufacturing |
Codes get more specific as digits are added. 336 is transportation equipment, 3361 is motor vehicle manufacturing, 336111 is automobile manufacturing specifically. Six digits is the most granular level published.
How to actually use NAICS for segmentation
- Start from the product, not the customer. A company is classified by what it produces, not by whom it sells to. A firm making surgical instrument trays is in 339 (miscellaneous manufacturing), not in healthcare.
- Do not assume one code per company. Diversified manufacturers carry a primary NAICS and often several secondary codes. Filtering only on primary codes will silently drop a large plant because its parent is classified elsewhere.
- Pair NAICS with size. NAICS alone puts a 40-person machine shop and a Fortune 100 manufacturer in the same bucket. NAICS plus employee range is the minimum viable segmentation.
- Watch the 332/333 boundary. Fabricated metal (332) and machinery (333) blur constantly in practice. If your target is "anything that cuts, forms or welds metal," query both.
- Remember 339 is a catch-all. Medical devices, sporting goods, jewelry and signs all live in 339. It is the least homogeneous subsector in the system.
- Use SIC as a cross-check, not a replacement. SIC predates NAICS and is still carried in many databases. Where a record has both and they disagree, that is a signal to verify the company rather than trust either.
Methodology: how this manufacturing company list was compiled
What qualifies as a manufacturing company here. A company was included if it owns and operates facilities that physically transform materials into goods, and if that activity is central to its business rather than incidental. This covers OEMs, contract manufacturers, private-label producers, component makers, processors and refiners.
What was excluded, and why. Companies whose products are made entirely by third parties were excluded even where the brand is strongly associated with manufacturing. That includes fabless semiconductor designers (Nvidia, AMD, Qualcomm, Marvell), footwear and apparel brands with fully outsourced production, and consumer brands that own no plants. Also excluded: metals service centers and industrial distributors, which process and stock but are classified as wholesale trade; oilfield service companies; engineering and construction firms; contract research organizations; and software or automation vendors that sell to manufacturers. Several of these are excellent commercial targets if you sell into manufacturing. None of them are manufacturers.
How US manufacturing presence was determined. Every company either is headquartered in the United States or operates identifiable manufacturing facilities in the United States. Foreign-owned entries are listed under their US headquarters, with the parent country in a separate column, and are never described as American companies. Of the 723 companies listed, 557 are US-headquartered and 166 are foreign-owned, close to one in four. Japan (27), Germany (23), Ireland (20), the United Kingdom (15) and France (13) account for most of the foreign-owned entries. That proportion is consistent with BEA's finding that US affiliates of foreign multinationals employ more than three million manufacturing workers.
One caveat on that column, because it would otherwise mislead. "Parent country" records the country of incorporation or ultimate ownership, not the character of the business. A significant share of the Ireland entries are companies with American origins, American operational headquarters and predominantly US management that are Irish-incorporated for tax reasons: Medtronic, Eaton, Trane Technologies, Johnson Controls, Allegion, STERIS and Pentair among them. They are labeled Ireland because that is factually where the parent entity sits, and their US headquarters is given in the same row. They are a different case from BMW Manufacturing or Toyota Motor North America, which are US operating arms of genuinely foreign companies. If you are using this directory to separate domestic from foreign manufacturers, read the two columns together rather than sorting on parent country alone.
How duplicates were handled. Each company appears once, in the category matching its largest manufacturing segment. Wholly owned subsidiaries were folded into their parent rather than listed separately, so Pratt and Whitney appears within RTX, Gulfstream within General Dynamics, and Freightliner within Daimler Truck North America. This keeps the count honest: 723 rows means 723 distinct corporate entities, not 723 brand names.
How the information was verified. Company identity, sector and headquarters were established from company-published sources: corporate websites, investor relations pages and SEC filings for public companies. Sector statistics were taken only from primary government sources or from the National Association of Manufacturers where NAM cites the underlying BEA, BLS, Census or NSF series.
Where information was unavailable. Fields that could not be established with confidence were left blank. Revenue and employee counts are deliberately absent from the main directory, because maintaining 723 rows of financial data at publishable accuracy requires a data pipeline rather than an article. Revenue appears only in the "largest manufacturers" section, against one stated metric and fiscal year.
When the research was performed. August 2026. Corporate facts change continuously through acquisitions, headquarters relocations and rebrands. Several 2024 to 2026 transactions are reflected here, including Nippon Steel's acquisition of U.S. Steel, the Smurfit Kappa and WestRock combination, Amcor's acquisition of Berry Global, and Novo Holdings' acquisition of Catalent.
Why this is not an exhaustive census. The US Census Bureau counted 239,265 manufacturing firms in 2022, and 93.1% of them employ fewer than 100 workers. This directory covers 723 of the largest and most significant, which is a fraction of one percent of the firm count and a large share of the output. It is a research starting point and a structured view of the sector's leaders. It is not, and no article can be, a complete list of every manufacturing company in America. Anyone claiming otherwise is describing a database, not an article.
